This piece includes multiple layers of acrylic paint applied using a variety of different tools. The collage pieces are torn from an old freshman English textbook that I used in my teaching. Although the words from the text have no particular meaning, they represent the quest for a language with which to know and express the self. Around the edges, I wrote words like renewal, metamorphosis, and transformation, because an authentic search requires daily reinvigoration. The text around the egg-shape and around the edges of the artwork says, “The sacred path is the one I am on.” The words are a simple reminder that as I continue my journey, one step at a time, I am being enlivened and “hatched” each day.
