Suzanne Scott Constantine
Mixed media on cradle board and matboard, 2023. 9.5” x 26”
In this smaller piece inspired by life’s crossroads, the emphasis is not on the choice but on the one standing in the gap. Standing at an important intersection. She represents me and all of my intersecting identities – white woman, artist, writer, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Queer.
I am looking straight ahead beyond the roads, but I am mindful of the past that shaped me. I am also conscious of the ambiguous and uncertain future pulling me forward. I stand in the breach – as witness to the past, and as a participant in the present moment. I challenge myself to be a brave sojourner into the ambiguity and uncertainty of the personal and collective future.
