Sixty-six million years ago, a comet struck earth, resulting in massive devastation, most notably the extinction of the dinosaurs. However, one sort of dinosaur survived: the ancestors of today’s birds.
These proto-birds had wings, small body mass, and varied diets, making them nimble enough and adaptable enough to survive. Unlike their earth-bound counterparts, the winged dinosaurs could just take off, with a little bit of the look about them, I suspect, of this little mockingbird, whom I photographed speeding through my back yard in Point Harbor.
